THE lights were turned out on Monday night as village residents, along with the rest of the country, marked the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War and remembered those who sacrificed their lives.

Some of the Wellington Heath folk took part earlier in the evening in the Commemoration Service held in St Michaels, Ledbury, where the Reverend Paul Dunthorne reminded all that Christ came to bear the sin and sorrow of the world and to bring hope and forgiveness in the face of despair.

This Sunday two beautiful gardens are again open to the public, 2pm–6pm, £5 for adults, children are free, but please don’t bring your dog. The View (Ochre Hill) and Dogberry (parking at the Farmers Arms) will have plants for sale, and you’ll find refreshments at the latter venue. Proceeds again go to St Michael’s Hospice.

The annual Village Cricket Day is set for Sunday afternoon September 7 at 2.30pm at the Mackie’s field. Should the weather be impossible that day, be prepared to come along the following Sunday!

The potholes in Horse Road outside Mortar Cottage have at last been filled in.

Good news is that the 675 bus that serves the village will not be axed. Thank you to all who signed the petition.

Don’t forget to join in the fun at the Carnival on Monday, August 25 in Ledbury – some of the local residents will be taking part.

Enjoy what’s left of the lovely summer!
