AT the July meeting, Jill welcomed members and introduced the Speaker, Amanda Ely, who is an Admiral Nurse.

Amanda started by telling members about Admiral Nursing which started 12 years ago and about her own career as a Mental Health Nurse.

She then explained about the different types of Dementia (there are over 100 different types). Amanda stressed that every dementia patient is different in the way in which they are affected by the condition. Among other things, she explained how memory and perception can change.

The members were very interested as most people in some way have experience of, or know someone with, dementia and several asked questions or raised problems that they themselves were facing as carers. In the time available Amanda did not have the opportunity to delve deeper into the subject but we all benefited from her talk.

Following coffee, members had the business part of the meeting. Jill advised that it had been decided by the Committee not to go-ahead with the proposed river trip for the annual outing but to have lunch at The Inn at Welland. Those members who wanted to go to this gave their names and Jill will contact them nearer the time to confirm times and transport arrangements.

The next meeting will be on September 2 when Alan Thornton will help members to Remember the 40s and 50s. This will be at the URC Hall, Worcester Road Malvern Link (rear entrance) at 10.30am (doors open at 10am). New members and visitors always welcome.
