ON 30th June the handover from the 2013-14 President Mick Wasley to the President for 2014-15 Roger Watson took place.

The outgoing president, Mick Wasley, said that he had been privileged and honoured to have served as the Club’s President and hoped that he had proven worthy.

Although it has had its moments, he said that his year has been thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable and he wholeheartedly thanked the Club for its support. The sum of nearly £18,000 was raised during the year over sixty percent of which has been used to support locally based causes - Macmillan Cancer Relief and Midlands Air Ambulance amongst others - while over forty percent went to support causes specifically aimed at the young - Acorns Children Hospice. He also said that he was particularly gratified that we had managed to recruit two new members.

The incoming president, Roger Watson, said that he saw being a Rotarian as someone who enables others to serve whether at home or overseas. Our club has a lot of life skills and practical experience that will be useful in service to others and he hoped that we would be generous with them.

His major charity for this year is to help the Criminal Reduction Initiative, which is itself a charity, part of which is to help ex offenders stay off drugs permanently. There is a Malvern branch of CRI now based at the Cube.

Another aim is to increase our hands on community work, one of whose aims will be to form a Rotaract club to encourage younger people to form a club and take part in Rotary activities.

He said that he was looking forward to a good year in which all members will work as a team and enjoy our Rotary meetings and our work in the community.
