AT Malvern Speakers’ first AGM last week, Sarah Williams was voted in as Club President for the coming year, to succeed Steve Birch, who was recently appointed Toastmasters’ Area Governor.

John Evans, President of Cheltenham Toastmasters and Club Mentor of the Malvern club, congratulated the year-old group on its strong membership – currently around 35 and the hard work and dedication of its committee.

Jim Jenner led the evening’s impromptu Table Topics section, in which members and visitors talk off-the-cuff for one to two minutes on a completely unknown subject. His questions such as Is money a blessing or a curse? Is it better to remain a bachelor or get married? What would you do with a million pounds? produced some thoughtful and humorous responses!

Sarah Colloby won the best prepared speech award for her eloquent talk A Moving Experience, which struck a chord with members who had survived the trauma of moving house. Other prepared speeches were John Day’s humorous talk entitled Clumsy and Hazel Robinson’s speech about the wisdom of tea.

Malvern Speakers meets on the second and fourth Tuesday every month.

The next meeting will be held at The Great Malvern Hotel in Graham Road at 7.30pm on Tuesday, June 25 - visitors most welcome. For more details visit the club website www.malvernspeakers.co.uk or contact Steve Birch 07831 846997 or 01684 568676.
