THE April meeting was an open meeting and it was good to see the hall buzzing with visitors as well as the members.

The brief business included information on federation events on such diverse subjects as learning the samba and flower arranging. Arrangements are under way for the annual walk and supper in May. Members reported on an excellent spring council meeting in Pershore when Sheila Dibnah had been a hilarious speaker, and on a most enjoyable Severn Group meeting at Hanley Swan.

The visitors had come especially to hear Peter Garner speak on the natural wonders of the Malvern Hills.

He started with several different views of the hills, before homing in on its flora and fauna. The pinkish wavy hair grass which clothes many of the slopes indicate that most of the hills were once wooded. It is the bilberry which gives different colour patches at different seasons, and the two varieties of gorse give a yellow display for most of the year. Mr Garner took members through various other plants, some of which are exceedingly rare. He then talked about many of the animals and birds seen on the hills, with several of them also being quite rare. The pictures were beautiful, many taken by the speaker. The talk was greatly enjoyed by all present. Sylvia Poutney thanked Mr Garner.

The competition for an animal figurine was won by Elisabeth Dempsey, Shirley Miles and Sylvia. It was gratifying to see members and visitors mixing well as they then chatted over tea and delicious cakes.

On May 13 at 7.30pm in the village hall it will be the Resolutions and Annual Meeting. W
