ARTISTIC pupils have created placemats for a Worcester business.

Students from RGS Worcester were asked to enter a design a placemat contest for Café 43 on The Tything.

The coffee shop’s customers then cast their votes to determine the winner.

David Tibbutt, the former mayor of Worcester, presented prizes to winner Danielle Greening, aged 14, who won by one vote. Keira Brady, 13, and Natasha Bratton, 14, came in joint second.

Sue Poluczanis, owner of Café 43, set up the competition after deciding she wanted a new look for the coffee shop’s tables.

Coun Tibbutt said: “A competition like this is great for drawing people into the café as well as giving the pupils the opportunity to have their work on display in a public place. All the work looked good enough to eat.”

Angie Freeman, RGS art teacher, said “I was so impressed by the creativity and variety of the works produced.

“It’s been great to see the work up on the café walls.

“The girls worked hard and were rewarded with Amazon vouchers, which I’m sure they will enjoy spending.”
