APPRENTICES in Worcestershire are being encouraged to enter an award.

The search for the top trade apprentice has been launched by Screwfix, which has a store in Great Malvern.

Budding builders, and the next generation of electricians and plumbers, can all enter for the chance to win prizes containing everything they need to set up on their own.

The finest apprentices from each region will be then be chosen by the firm to go head-to-head at a national final at Google headquarters in London, this April.

The winner will receive a business start-up pack including a laptop with accessories, £5,000 worth of Screwfix products, and funds for future training and courses.

Graham Smith, Screwfix director of marketing, said: "As a leading supplier to the trade, we run this competition to safeguard the future of the industry and invest in the next generation of top tradespeople who will keep our homes warm, safe, dry, and secure for the future.

"This is the third year we’ve run the competition and every year we’re hugely impressed by the bright, enthusiastic young apprentices who are keen to get on in their careers and be a huge success.

"We hope to give the winner the tools and support they need to help them build a successful business.”

Thomas Morgan, Screwfix Top Trade Apprentice winner in 2016, added: “I’d recommend any trade apprentice applies for this competition, I never thought I’d win and I’ve been on such a journey ever since I got the news.

"From the range of tools to the training I’ve received, it’s really helped me to develop my career. I’ve even gone on to win other awards since."
