AS the day of reckoning draws closer, Worcestershire business people are becoming more confused by the Brexit debate.

More than 50 attended Herefordshire & Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce’s Brexit panel debate in Kidderminster and a snap poll afterwards showed that 24 per cent were still unsure how they would vote. This contrasted with a similar poll taken at the Chamber's Business Expo in March when only 11 per cent were wavering.

While those wanting to leave the EU remained constant at 24 per cent in both polls, the Remain campaign lost ground, from 65 per cent in March to 52 per cent in May.

Sponsored and hosted by mfg Solicitors, the debate was chaired by Chamber chief executive Mike Ashton. Speakers Malcolm Harbour, former MEP for the West Midlands and Mark Garnier MP for the Wyre Forest represented the Remain campaign, while in favour of the Leave campaign were Johnnie Arkwright, chairman of Business for Britain West Midlands and Peter Jewell, deputy treasurer of UKIP.

Mr Ashton said: "Thanks to mfg Solicitors for hosting another brilliant event and to our four speakers for taking the time to inform and debate many of the questions surrounding the EU Referendum. I enjoyed hearing from both sides of the debate and overall encourage all businesses to research both sides of the argument and to use your vote.”
