GOURMET snack maker Tyrrells, which began life on a Herefordshire potato farm, has expanded its international footprint with the purchase of Aroma Snacks, one of Germany’s largest organic crisp producers.

The Leominster-based company now exports to 37 countries and has five manufacturing sites. It's latest acquisition Aroma is behind the Lisa's Hand-Cooked Chips brand and is headquartered in the Ravensburg district of Baden-Württemberg. The deal means Germany is now Tyrrells' largest European market, followed by France. It comes just nine months after the manufacturer acquired Australian snacks company Yarra Valley Snack Foods.

David Milner, Tyrrells chief executive, said: "We are delighted to increase our capabilities in Europe as well as to boost our organic expertise with this acquisition. Tyrrells is now in an excellent position to ensure we continue to meet growing demand for Tyrrells in continental Europe."

There are currently seven Tyrrells crisp flavours available in Germany, the most popular of which is sea salt & cider vinegar.

Jochen Krumm, managing director of Aroma Snacks, added: "I am delighted to be working with Tyrrells and look forward to realising our combined growth potential. We are very excited about the opportunities that this acquisition presents both nationally and internationally."
