AFTER living in Africa for the past twenty years, Worcester-born Paul Meredith has returned to his roots to launch his own business.

The Zip Yard in The Shambles will offer customers top quality garment alterations and repairs in a purpose designed retail environment with on-site seamstresses and private changing rooms.

Mr Meredith said: "Back in 1992 my wife and I made the move to Africa after I took an opportunity with a telecommunications company that was too good to miss. We had a great life and really got to explore the continent, but there really is no place like home. Now our children are all grown up and in the UK, we felt the time was right to move back and start on a new project together. I’d always wanted to run my own business and be my own boss and I’m excited to do it all in Worcester.”

As a former chief technical officer who oversaw large scale projects for high profile clients across Africa, the 57-years-old is stepping into completely new territory but is confident his business will be a success.

He added: "No appointments are necessary and we’ve got private fitting rooms so we can do any measuring on the premises. Most people don’t have the time to repair or alter their own clothes and so many good garments are going to waste just hanging in the wardrobe; now people can bring these clothes into the shop and we will give them a new lease of life. Our seamstresses are amazing – if it can be done they can do it. There is also a one hour express service for zips, hems and minor repairs. Shoppers can buy a garment in the morning and have the alterations done in time to wear the outfit that evening."
