HE started off studying dentistry, but then got his teeth into the legal profession and now Brian O’Connell has retired after 36 years with a Worcester law firm.

He has been senior partner at SME Solicitors in Sansome Walk and Pierpoint Street, as well as serving as a deputy district judge. He will continue in that role, while also undertaking some part-time consultancy for SME.

Incoming senior partner Ian Stirzaker said: "Brian began his career studying dentistry, but after one year, changed to economics. After graduating he completed the conversion course for law and qualified in 1978. He is well known in the county and magistrates courts locally as an experienced advocate and is respected across Herefordshire and Worcestershire for his gentlemanly professionalism The SME partners thank him sincerely for his many years of service.”

Mr O’Connell, who is 65, has acted on the governing board for local schools, including The Chase, Malvern, and has been on the board of trustees of several local charities.

He said: “I am very proud to have been both partner and senior partner of SME Solicitors, particularly over the past six years which have seen the firm’s successful merger and broad expansion. I shall miss everyone but am looking forward to the future which, I know, will be busy.”
