POWER transformer manufacturer Bromsgrove Winding Services is expanding its factory and workforce

The company has moved into two more units at Sugarbrook on Buntsford Hill Business Park and now now operates from 12,000 sq ft on the site after a £500,000-plus investment.

Existing tenants at Unit A, Buntsford Park Road, the lease has been renewed for another five years, and the company has purchased newly built blocks B and C, customising these for its specific requirements. BWS make and distribute transformers with products working in mines across the UK, Europe, Russia and the Far East. Established in 1998 and with humble beginnings, it aims to double its annual turnover to £3.3m in the long-term boosted by exports to China.

Chris Hall, director of BWS, said: “As the only UK manufacturer of energy efficient amorphous power transformers, demand is outstripping supply and a move to larger premises was essential for us as we look to fulfil our potential. We have secured a new building which has been custom built for purpose, helping us to realise our growth ambitions for the short and long-term future.”

The deal was done through property agents John Truslove and director Ian Parker added: "BWS is a global operator which is demonstrating its confidence in manufacturing. It is amazing the worldwide reach enjoyed by so many small to medium sized Midlands businesses like this. It is great for British exports and the region’s prosperity.”

The expansion sees the firm set to increase staff numbers from 24 to 33.
