MALVERN'S award winning construction firm Speller Metcalfe has a new managing director.

Des O’Neill is to take over the role, which will see him move towards managing both the company’s Malvern and Wolverhampton operations, having previously been director of its construction division.

"Des has made significant contributions to both group strategic operations and business development alongside management of the Wolverhampton team," said Steve Speller, joint group managing director. "Over the last 18 months the directors have been working together to enable a more efficient crossover of resources between our regional teams. This has driven benefits both in terms of efficiency, but has also provided opportunities for staff development. Following continued growth and success of our Wolverhampton base, Des has become increasingly engaged in the management decision process at Malvern, gradually taking ownership of broader responsibilities. We are therefore delighted to recognise and formalise his contribution as the new Managing Director.”

The move follows Tony Shaw’s departure as the previous managing director, who, following partial retirement in 2014, stepped into the role of pre-construction director.

Speller Metcalfe was recently announced as contractor of the year at the Construction News Awards 2015, and operates from offices in Wolverhampton, Malvern, Gloucester and London with a turnover of £115 million.
