AN award winning Worcester architects is in line for another major industry gong.

KKE Architects Ltd of Diglis Basin has had one of its projects short-listed for the AJ Retrofit Awards, which it won in 2012 with the Riverside development for the University of Worcester. This time the shortlisting is for the St. Dunstan’s Building designed for the Heart of Worcestershire College. The revamped property in The Butts was opened at the end of last year to staff and students who have benefited from the modernised facilities.

KKE director Phil Kavanagh said: "We are very proud of the building which derives much of it’s quality from the close team working with the College and their consultants and contractors.’’

The scheme was a retrofit project that transformed the former furniture store into a new teaching facility, allowing the college to expand its facilities, offering modern, state of the art hair and beauty salons and art and design studios.

Nicki Williams, vice principal of HoW College, added: “The transformation of the old furniture store to a modern, spacious learning facility has been truly inspirational. The response from learners and the local community has been overwhelmingly positive, making the building a key landmark in Worcester city centre.”

KKE Architects celebrates its 10th anniversary this year and the shortlisting follows the recent triumph of two Royal Institute of British Architects awards for its work at Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge.
