AWARD winning Malvern contractor Speller Metcalfe is in line for another gong.

The company on Enigma Business Park has again reached the finals in two categories of the national Considerate Constructors Scheme, which shows its consideration for local communities.

Two Worcestershire-based projects, Provender Mill, a redevelopment of the three-storey Russell & Dorrell furniture store in Worcester for the newly formed Heart of Worcestershire College, and Habberley Learning Campus, a new school campus for a primary, secondary and special educational needs school in Kidderminster, have both been shortlisted for an award.

Steve Speller, the company's joint managing director, said: "Speller Metcalfe became an associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme last year, which recognises our site teams continuous commitment to performing over and above industry standards. We have been lucky enough to receive a few CCS awards, and we hope to achieve our first gold in 2015.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme encourages best practice across five different areas of a building project; appearance, community, safety, workforce and the environment, with each site scoring up to a possible 50 marks. At Provender Mill, the project team worked hand-in-glove with the College to provide training opportunities, apprenticeships and to develop strong community relationships, with over 80 per cent of sub-contractors employed within 30 miles of site.

This was echoed at Habberley Learning Campus, where the team is building a state-of-the-art, £24 million scheme where the current Baxter College and St John’s Primary School are located and will soon be home to the new Wyre Forest Special School.

The annual awards take place in London, April 2015, where the teams will find out if they have been awarded bronze, silver or gold.
