THERE were fun and frolicks at Midcounties Co-operative Food store in Stourport on Severn as it celebrated its 25th anniversary.

The day's celebrations including prize giveaways and colleagues who had worked in the store since it opened were recognised for their contribution. Among the surprises were on-the-spot prizes of luxury food hampers to lucky customers who entered the store at 25 minutes past the hour throughout the day. Other activities, including a tombola and quiz, not only gave customers more chances to take prizes home, but also raised funds for Midcounties Co-operative’s charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust.

Staff led by store manager Steve Farmer got into the party spirit by working in fancy dress as part of a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party theme, and the landmark occasion also saw six members of the team receive awards for their long service. They included Wendy Wood, Christine Yates, Amanda Tovey, Jane Hall and Vanessa Handy, who have each worked in the store since its first day in 1989, while Michelle Phillips was honoured for 15 years’ service.

Mr Farmer said: "We’re proud to be marking 25 years here in Stourport, and it was great to reward the members of our team who have been with us since our opening day as part of our celebrations. As well as recognising an important landmark, the event also gave us the opportunity to reward loyal customers who have helped us along the way, while raising much needed funds for our charity partner Teenage Cancer Trust."
