ONE of the most sophisticated data centres in the UK is to open in Worcestershire.

Datatech UK, an IT solutions and website hosting provider with global blue chip clients in banking, retail, and well known search engines, has taking advantage of the Government’s enterprise funding guarantee scheme to secure a six figure sum to fund its expansion plans in Redditch. The project has been launched with support from Birmingham commercial finance company Central Finance.

Marc Banyard, the Datatech's technical director, said: "Thanks to the team at Central Finance, our ideas to grow the business, expand our business offering, increase our server capability for growing demand and bring the latest technology to the Midlands have come together under our new roof and premises in Redditch. Our new datacentre is one the most sophisticated server houses in the UK with capacity for 951 petabytes, which is around 238 million DVDs worth of data storage, so it’s pretty impressive if you think about it. With the advancement of technology and ever increasing demand for big data, the new data centre is the future of technology and I’m pleased we managed to raise the funding to build it right here in the Midlands. Hosting millions of websites and servers for big blue chip organisations, public bodies and sophisticated ecommerce retailers, meant our technology has to be state of the art and always evolving. The funding package achieved by Central Finance has not only allowed us to invest in new premises, state of the art servers but also increase our own fibre optic network, which currently reaches London, Amsterdam, Germany and Manchester and will soon provide connectivity to France, other areas of The Netherlands, and several locations in America.”
