HEATING giant Worcester Bosch is one of the major names supporting Tomorrow’s Engineers Week, which runs from November 3-7 and aims to encourage UK talent to take up engineering as a career.

The company based in Cotswold Way is working to promote the message that "engineering is all around you, celebrating the everyday engineers that design, create and innovate to improve almost every aspect of our daily lives".

One of Bosch's design engineers James Drewnick said: "I have always had a keen interest in the mechanics behind how everything works, so it was no accident I chose mechanical engineering as a degree and mechanical engineering design as a masters degree.”

Mr Drewnicki joined the company a year ago and has since worked with its huge international network to design and manufacture wall and floor mounted boilers. Bosch is one of the largest suppliers of systems, components and services to the automotive sector. The business accounts for around two-thirds of its global business. The company also supplies to the industrial and energy sectors, but is recognised by consumers for its range of products, including household appliances, power tools and lawn and garden products.

Paul Jackson, chief executive at EngineeringUK, added: “We are pleased to have Bosch join our cause to promote engineering amongst young people. Engineering makes an important contribution to UK economic growth, so to ensure that this trend continues we need to inspire more young people to become the talented engineering heroes of tomorrow. Engineering companies will have more than 2.5 million job openings over this decade, across a diverse range of disciplines. However, we need many more school children, particularly girls, choosing the GCSEs, A Levels, apprenticeships, degrees or other vocational pathways that will lead to engineering careers.”
