A MALVERN-based construction company has been recognised for its pioneering approach to improving the industry’s image.

Speller Metcalfe, which is headquartered on the town's Enigma Business Park, has been made an associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, having registered 182 of its sites with the national initiative scheme designed to encourage best practice beyond statutory requirements. The company has previously had successes at the National Considerate Constructor Awards for Blackmarston Primary School in Hereford, receiving a silver award for a high score of 44/50, which placed the project in the top five per cent of sites nationally.

Steve Speller, joint managing director at Speller Metcalfe, said: "We are so pleased that we have been invited to become an associate member of the Considerate Constructors Scheme and look forward to actively promoting the benefits of the initiative whilst bringing new ideas to the table. The construction industry is becoming increasingly aware of the need to have a positive impact on the local community whether that is by creating long-term, sustainable buildings or stimulating the local economy through employment opportunities and apprenticeships. We recognise the scheme as an integral part of our business strategy and we strive to continue raising standards across all our sites."

Awarded as part of the West Midlands Contractor Framework, Speller Metcalfe has been contracted to develop Habberley Learning Campus in Kidderminster. The site, which involves the refurbishment of Baxter College and St John’s Primary School as well as the construction of the new Wyre Forest Special School, has the potential to be the company’s highest score yet with a pre-completion Considerate Constructor score of 46/50.
