AN apprentice from Kidderminster has been named the top young scaffolder in the country.

Twenty two years old Charlie Holloway won the National Construction College scaffolding apprentice of the year award at the Construction Industry Training Board 50th Anniversary Pride of Construction Awards in Old Billingsgate, London.

Mr Holloway received the award for his achievements as a scaffolding apprentice at GMK Scaffolding, of Kidderminster, where he worked on a range of projects including many jobs for Birmingham City Council.

He said: "It’s great to get this award. My apprenticeship has been a lot of hard work but it’s been worth it. I have learnt so much already and am eager to keep on learning. I’m looking forward to working my way through the ranks at GMK while also completing the NCC’s advanced scaffolding course. I couldn’t have won these awards without the support of my employers, the College and the Construction Industry Training Board.”

Andy Walder, principal of the National Construction College, added: "Charlie is a worthy winner of the scaffolding apprentice of the year award. His attitude, aptitude and ability have enabled him to achieve outstanding results and demonstrate real commitment to kick-start his career in construction. Charlie is a credit to the industry we wish him every success in his career.”
