FOLLOWING in the footsteps of the Romans, three employees from npower's Worcester hub trekked 26 miles along Hadrian's Wall in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Hadrian’s Wall challenge is part of a 2014 employee ‘10 for 10’ campaign to mark 10 years of partnership between Macmillan and npower. The campaign aims to help Macmillan ensure no one has to face cancer alone by raising £150,000, which the energy supplier vows to match pound for pound.

Zoe Melarkey, Carl Mason and Heather Tyrer and walked for 12 hours along the 1,892-year-old wall with around 50 other npower employees from across the UK. The team were joined by friends and family for the only ’10 for 10’ challenge in which people from outside of the company could join in.

PR manager Mrs Melarkey, who took part in the challenge with her sister Jenny, said: “Macmillan is an amazing cause to support - I try to do one thing for them every year - and I’m delighted that Jenny and I did this challenge together. Knowing that I was raising money for Macmillan definitely kept me going while walking the gruelling 26 miles along Hadrian's Wall."

The Worcester troupe and their friends and families have contributed to raising more than £4200 for this challenge, bringing the value of the 10-year Macmillan/npower partnership to more than £8m.
