A CAMPAIGN has been launched to encourage more dog owners to go "walkies" and holiday in Worcestershire.

The County Council's tourist arm Visit Worcestershire has teamed up with Royal Canin, which provides tailored nutrition for dogs and cats, to offer one lucky winner of their 'Woofcestershire' photo competition a year's supply of Royal Canin food. To be in with a chance of winning, entrants should send in photographs of their dogs enjoying the Worcestershire countryside, attractions or accommodation.

Victoria Carman, tourism development officer at Destination Worcestershire, said: "Canines play an important part in many pet owners' lives and a recent study from scientists at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia even suggests that dogs can reciprocate the feelings of love and affection shown to them by their owners.

"As the summer season is in full swing, now is the perfect time for dog lovers to enjoy one of the many dog friendly holidays on offer in Worcestershire. With canine companions welcome at many top notch hotels, cosy bed and breakfasts and holiday cottages, the county is a dog lover's paradise. There are a huge variety of walking routes available for those who want to go for a stroll with their favourite family pet. Among them are the ancient Wyre Forest, the magnificent Malvern Hills, the Vale of Evesham, the Clent Hills, the river and canal network and many country parks and outdoor spaces."
