WASTE company staff have cleaned up by raising £4,000 to improve water supplies in developing countries.

A team from pollution control firm RAW, based at Portland Road in Malvern, competed in the Severn Trent Mountain Challenge, a charity hike in support of Water Aid.

And team members are now celebrating after winning the trophy for being the fastest water company contractor to complete the 30-mile hike held in the Derbyshire Peak District.

With refreshment in the form of water donated by Rhys Humm of nearby Holywell Malvern Spring Water, the team completed the course in just under 10-and-a-half hours.

Jon Burton, the RAW team captain, said: “I’ve done it for the last five years and it’s a challenge.

“When we finished there was a certain amount of ‘That’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done’, but we managed to keep going.

“It’s a very good cause, so after you finish, you are glad that you’ve made the effort.”
