ENOUGH tea towels to dry a lifetime of washing up are in need of a new home.

Colwall woman Sue Richmond- Allen is trying to find a good home for a legacy of more than 500 tea towels left to her by her mother.

Mrs Richmond-Allen, of Stone Lane, says that her mother Marjorie Richmond was a persistent collector of all kinds of items.

After she died last year, aged 97, her children found her house in Berkshire filled with her collections of coins, china plates, magazines, and other items, including the tea towels.

“There are tea towels from all sorts of places and commemorating all kinds of occasions, such as VE Day,” said Mrs Richmond-Allen.

“She had tea towels from places like Canada and the Cayman Islands, places we’re sure she’s never been, so she must have had friends who’d bring them back for her.”

“We really don’t know what to do with them.

“We found someone who wanted the magazines, which included ones that aren’t published any more, some of them dating back before the war, and now we need someone who wants the tea towels.”

Mrs Richmond-Allen said her mother led an interesting life, including writing romance novels for Mills and Boon under two pseudonyms.

She said: “I think my father was a bit annoyed that she made more money scribbling them than he did in his job.”
