MALVERN Town enjoyed an Easter goal bonanza with a 5-0 thrashing of Lye Town in the West Midlands League Premier Division.

They made a dream start with a penalty on 10 minutes after a corner hit Matt Kiebb’s hand and Lee Hooper put away the spot-kick.

The visitors took until the 40th minute to build on their lead when Oliver Endacott attacked the left flank and his fine through-ball was fired home from five yards by Hooper.

Two minutes later, Hooper completed his hat-trick after rounding keeper Mark Whitehouse following Joe Leighton’s perfect pass.

Hooper was denied a fourth three minutes into the second period when his chip was held by Whitehouse.

However, a minute later, it was 4-0 when the ball was played to Dave Reynolds, who rounded the advancing keeper and fired in from the edge of the box.

Reynolds completed the scoring just before the hour mark with a header from Craig Carter’s centre.

Lye finally came into the game with Reece Shilvock and Matt Price firing just off target before Malvern keeper Ian Hill saved Damien Whitcombe’s curling shot.

The visitors had the final chance, though, when Ryan Barry beat two players and crossed for Reece King, whose effort was caught by Whitehouse.

However, Lye gained revenge on Tuesday night in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Trophy semi-finals with a 5-3 penalty shoot-out success at the Langland Stadium.

In a poor game, Lye took the lead after 70 minutes when Whitcombe tucked away a corner but Malvern equalised in injury-time when Joe Endacott headed home a flag-kick.

Extra-time resulted in no further goals so the game was decided on penalties.

Lye keeper Charles Price put away the first kick but Reynolds fired his well over the bar for Malvern.

The remaining seven kicks were all netted, resulting in Lye triumphing and Malvern not having to take their fifth.

Malvern host Midland Combination Division One outfit Archdales 73 in the Worcester Infirmary Cup Senior Cup semi-finals next Tuesday (7.45pm).
