INTREPID adventurers handed over a cheque for £2,000 to Armed Forces charity Help for Heroes at a special event concluding an extreme off-road exhibition.
The Napier Trail Expedition, organised by Malvern-based Trailquest, was a 1,600km motorcycle journey in Ethiopia following the route of one of the most dramatic rescue missions ever attempted by the British Army.
On Sunday participants, guests and sponsors gathered at Trailquest’s headquarters to hand over the money raised to Help for Heroes.
Trailquest director Richard Jeynes said: “We are delighted to have been able to contribute so much to this very worthwhile cause. Many of the Trailquest team are ex-military and the cause is something we are very happy to support.”
The expedition, which was led by Mr Jeynes, followed difficult terrain to the remote hilltop fortress of Magdala, which in 1868 was the scene of a military rescue operation to rescue British hostages being held by King Tewdros II.
As well as supporting Help for Heroes, participants also delivered supplies to Ethiopian schools on behalf of education charity Project Pencil Case.
Trailquest’s next expedition will be to India in 2013.
