Good times rolling for Morgan's 3 Wheeler

BUSINESS is booming at the Morgan Motor Company as demand for the new 3 Wheeler continues to grow.

Production at the Pickersleigh Road factory has been stepped up with workers putting in shifts on Saturdays to keep them on track with the 800 orders received.

Originally built in Malvern between 1909 and 1951, work on the 21st-century update began in the factory warehouse in June this year, with 40 already making it out onto the roads.

Managing director Charles Morgan said: “We have taken 800 deposits and we are flat out to try and build as many as we can. We would like to build 20 a week and we have been working on Saturdays. We have built 40 so far this year and that is on top of the 700 or so four-wheeled vehicles we have produced.

“Volumes this year are a little under 1,000 and next year we should go up to 1,500. We don’t want those 800 waiting for more than a year.”

This news follows rumours that problems with the production of the 3 Wheeler had seen the introduction of a four-day week for the company’s workers.

Mr Morgan added: “It’s the complete opposite. With the help of the West Midlands we are all tooled up and the fact the suppliers want the extra work means I don’t see a problem.”

He was also hoping for success on the other side of the Atlantic, after the car made its North American debut at the LA Auto Show last month.

Next week, a limited edition Superdry 3 Wheeler will be on show when the clothing manufacturer opens its flagship store on London’s Regent Street. It will also make a return stateside in January at the Superdry store in Times Square, New York.
