A COMMEMORATIVE rose bed has been planted at the Old Churchyard in Upton and will be in full bloom by the time the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee comes around next year.
Upton in Bloom offered residents the chance to purchase one of the 60 roses that have been planted in the new bed.
Chairman Jackie Surtees said: “We sold all 60 of them very quickly. There was a lot of interest and it is definitely a project that the town has got behind.”
Members of Upton in Bloom were assisted by volunteers as they planted all 60 roses on Friday (November 25).
“Now we just need to spread some bark and put some edging in to make it tidier and easier to cut,” Mrs Surtees added.
A commemorative plaque will be included by the bed and a framed list of people who have bought a rose, made a donation or offered their assistance will be put in the Heritage Centre.
