LITERARY Malvern will be the theme for the 2012 Civic Week in the town, says Malvern Civic Society.
Katharine Barber of the Society said: "Malvern is the home of many writers and has a wealth of publications about the history of the area.
"The literary side of the history and heritage of the Malvern is not something that has been publicised in the past – other aspects of the area such as music are well supported and we have our annual Autumn in Malvern music festival.
"We are in the process of discussing the options with a number of people in the town including the theatre and the Writers’ Circle.
"We have also contacted a number of societies that support well known authors who have connections with the town - not least Shaw, Tolkien and C S Lewis.
"We also think that this theme might be attractive to schools and youth groups."
The Civic Week will be held in June 2012, and the society hopes to have the programme finalised by March.
Other writers who have connections with Malvern and the area around it include poet A E Housman and novelist Francis Brett Young.
Roger Sutton of the society said: "We've contacted the Housman Society and the Francis Brett Young Society and they are interested as well.
"We're also talking to Aspect Design because they publish a lot of titles by local authors.
"This year's Civic Week was a great success and we hope that next year's will be as well."
