MALVERN Town Council has formally agreed to refurbish its historic gas lamps.
The town council owns 22 of Malvern’s famous lamps, and will spend about £20,000 upgrading them to be brighter and more cost efficient.
The work, agreed last night by the council’s operations committee, could reduce running costs by as much as 75 per cent. Operations manager Charles Porter described it as a “spend to save measure”.

It's going to take a long time to recover the (c)£1000/each expense of refurbishment in running costs. Why so much? Has the contract been put out to tender? If not, why not and if so, who is the contractor?
What about all of the other lamps in the town that MHDC has been threatening to remove funding for?
