HEART of England in Bloom judges have heaped praise upon Upton’s award-winning entry.
As well as receiving its customary gold award, Upton was also named winner in the large village category and picked up a special Biodiversity Award. The town has also been nominated to participate in next year’s prestigious Britain in Bloom competition.
In their report on Upton, the judges remarked: “This is the eighth entry of Upton in Bloom into the campaign and year-on-year they continually strive and succeed in improving their entry for the benefit of all.
“The energy, innovation, support and sheer hard work of Upton in Bloom is awe-inspiring. The judges left with a sense and feeling of the immense community civic pride that has developed and been nurtured over the ‘In Bloom’ years.”
Upton in Bloom chairman Jackie Surtees recently revealed she thought it very unlikely that the group would continue unless more support and volunteers can be found to share the workload.
She hopes this year’s success and the prospect of a Britain in Bloom campaign will inspire people to get involved.
“It would be a huge shame for Upton in Bloom not to continue, and we really do need to hear from people who might be able to get involved and help out,” she said. “A lot of work goes in but successes like this mean it is very rewarding.”
