A FLOWER festival is being held in the village of Leigh later this month for the first time in 10 years.

The event is being held in two of the most historic buildings in the parish, the 12th-century St Edburga church, and the 14th-century tithe barn, the largest of its type in England.

The festival starts at 7pm on Friday, June 18, with a preview of the flower arrangements in the church followed by drinks and entertainment in the barn. Tickets for this event are £7.50 The church, containing the floral arrangements, will be open from 11am on both Saturday and Sunday, June 19 and 20. Lunches and teas will be served at Leigh Court, with an opportunity to enjoy a stroll around the court's gardens.

A craft fair will be held in the barn, where goods including sculpture, jewellery, art, fabrics, woodcraft, walking sticks, greetings cards, handbags, floral displays, ceramics, preserves, photography and garden plants will be on display and for sale.

Programmes costing £5 and covering admission to the church, craft fair and gardens will be on sale on both days, and free parking will be available.

A concert of light music for piano and violin, performed by Paul Morris and Kathy Holmes will take place in the church at 7.30pm on Saturday. The ticket price of £10 will include drink and canapés.

And the weekend will close with choral evensong at 6pm on Sunday, which will be led by the Archdeacon of Worcester, the Ven Roger Morris.
