Police who raided a Malvern flat found heroin and crack cocaine on a 22-year-old man.
Tyrone Clarke-Carruthers admitted he was acting as a drug courier in return for a small payment and a quantity of heroin.
He was arrested on July 17 last year at the property in Archers Close, when police seized two golf-ball sized lumps of heroin from him and £245 cash, said Kerry Moreton, prosecuting.
A further search revealed 23 small packages of crack cocaine and £120 hidden in one of his socks.
Clarke-Carruthers, of Inchcape Avenue, Birmingham, was given a 12-month community order with 200 hours of unpaid work.
He pleaded guilty to possession of heroin and possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply.
He had spent 200 days on a 12-hour home curfew which was electronically monitored, Worcester Crown Court heard.
Kate Bex, defending, said a jail term would have blighted his future work prospects. A classroom assistant, called as a character witness, said Clarke-Carruthers had obtained funding to work with children who had behaviour problems.
Judge Richard Rundell accepted that the defendant had a talent for helping children in sport and healthy eating habits.
