Tree planting record attempt by Malvern Community Forest group


A GROUP which wants to create a forest in the Malvern area is taking part in a tree-planting record attempt on Saturday, December 5.

Malvern Community Forest has joined forces with the Ravenshill Nature Rangers, the children's group that meets at he Ravenshill Woodland Reserve, Alfrick, to plant at least 200 hazel trees.

The event is part of an attempt, organised by National Tree Week and the BBC, to beat the Guinness world record for the most number of trees planted in multiple locations in one hour. The current record is 653,143.

The deputy leader of Malvern Hills District Council, Coun Joe Smith will be there as one of two independent witnesses.

The group will have be giving away a selection of freebies such as children's tee-shirts, eco-shopping bags and environmental booklets donated by the BBC. There will be membership forms available if you would like to join the group.

The tree planting will be followed by a short guided walk around the reserve. Anyone who wants to join in is welcome. They should bring a spade and wellies or stout footwear, and children must be accomanied by an adult.

Malvern Community Forest is a group of local people who want to recreate part of the Malvern Chase, an ancient forest .
