Central American visit will help people and environment

A GRADUATE from Upton is looking forward to an expedition to the central American countries of Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Adriana Keast, aged 22, is visiting the two nations in February next year as a member of a Raleigh International mission to carry out community and environmental work.

She will spend most of her time working on building a community centre and pre-school, and a gravity-fed water system, in a Nicaraguan village and on creating trails and erecting viewing platforms in a Costa Rican national park.

"I'm looking forward to using my skills to help build things that will really be useful to people and which will help them,” said Adriana, who graduated from the University of Portsmouth after studying interior design.

“We will be living with the people in their own village."

To take part, Adriana needs to raise £1,000 and she has organised a quiz night at the King's Head in Upton on Thursday, December 10, starting at 8pm. The entry is £4 per person and teams of up to six are invited to take part.
