A CYCLING enthusiast from Welland is getting ready to pedal more than 700 miles across France to raise money for a Malvern-based charity.
James Appleby, aged 30, will be undertaking the ride later this month in support of the Association for Rehabilitation of Communication and Oral Skills (ARCOS).
The challenge, on which he will be accompanied by London-based friend Jo Harrington, starts at St Nazaire on France's Atlantic coast, and ends 737 miles later at Basle on the Swiss border.
The ride is not the first time that James has raised money for ARCOS, as he raised about £1,500 for the cause with a parachute jump a couple of years ago.
He said: "I used to work for a company that supplied communications equipment for ARCOS, so I know what a good job they do.
"I'm a keen cyclist, and I've been on cycling holidays before, but this is the biggest challenge I've taken on so far." He hopes to complete the ride in 14 days.
Kay Coombes, ARCOS founder, said: "We're absolutely delighted that James has chosen to help us once again, and we'd urge everyone to support him."
