Morris men to make merry in Malvern

MORE than 100 Morris dancers will be taking to the streets of Great Malvern next Saturday (July 18) for a Day of Dance organised by the Old Meg Morris side.

The event will feature 12 different Morris sides, representing a variety of Morris traditions.

Dancing will take place at St Ann’s Well, the Abbey Archway and the forecourt at Malvern Library from 10.30am and at 3.30pm all the sides will join together in a celebratory display outside the library.

Old Meg Morris was founded in 1977 as a ladies’ side and became a mixed side in 2000.

The group dance North West Morris, a style that originated in Cheshire and Lancashire, and always welcome new dancers or musicians of all abilities.

They meet to practice at Poolbrook Hall, in Poolbrook Road, on Tuesdays between 8-10pm and dance at pubs, fayres and festivals throughout the year.

Anyone interested in joining or finding out more is welcome to talk to members at the event next Saturday, or call 01684 574628.
