Famous names to celebrate £6m school completion

A HOST of famous and celebrated names will be attending a Celebration of Completion at The Downs, Malvern College Prep School.

Malvern College merged its prep department with The Downs, in Colwall, at the start of the academic year. The celebration on Saturday, April 25 marks the completion of a £6m investment programme undertaken by the school as a result of the merger.

At 11am former Hillstone headmaster Roger Gillard will be the guest of honour for the opening of the Hillstone Pre-Prep Building.

Then at 11.20am the Brockwood Montessori Early Years Building will be opened by Barbara Issacs, the academic director of Montessori Centre International.

Olympic ladies hockey player Rachel Walker will open new astroturf facilities at 11.40am and legendary Worcestershire and England cricketer Graeme Hick will open the school’s Covent Gardens Sports Centre at noon.

Drinks and a buffet lunch will then be served. The morning’s formalities will be interspersed with a variety of light-hearted moments, including a helium balloon launch and a steam past of the school’s engines around is newly-extended miniature railway track.

Last year’s Royal Horticultural Society Gold Award-winning garden, displayed by students at the Three Counties Show, will also be on show.
