Link Top Post Office closed as part of national axe

A POST Office that served the community for more than 29 years closed its doors for the final time on Tuesday.

Users of Link Top Post Office campaigned tirelessly to keep the branch open after it was named as one of 10 in South Worcestershire earmarked for closure. Hundreds across the country were axed as part of a national campaign.

Callow End Post Office also served its last customer on Tuesday. This is being replaced with an outreach service at the village shop which was opened on Wednesday.

Richard Burt, Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for West Worcestershire, collected hundreds of postcards from concerned post office users and campaigned for the Link Top Post Office to stay open.

He said: “I think Gurd Virdee (the subpostmaster) has to be congratulated for keeping the post office open through the Christmas period for loyal customers who tried so hard to keep the branch open.

“Many people are disappointed. They do not undersant the logic behind the closure - all they can see is it is going to affect their lives.”
