HEALTH chiefs have appointed the construction partner for Malvern's new community hospital.
Interserve Project Services has been taken on following a formal tendering process.
Worcestershire Primary Care Trust chose Interserve from eight contractors which had been approved by the Department of Health.
Trust chief executive Paul Bates said: "We are delighted that Interserve has been successful through what has been a rigorous selection process. We are confident that they understand our vision for delivering a state-of-the-art hospital for our patients and one in which our clinicians will be proud to work."
Hospital project director Brian Hanford said: "Delivering the new community hospital for the people of Malvern will be a complex undertaking and choosing our partners carefully is obviously a key factor in success. We have selected Interserve as we believe they will work well with our local clinicians and managers in making the new hospital a reality for the people of Malvern."
Interserve MD David Paterson said: "We welcome the opportunity to create a hospital which will act as the centrepiece for the local community. We'll be working closely with the Trust to realise its vision, using the experience we've gained from undertaking over 80 ProCure21 health schemes. Together we shall provide facilities which will make a real difference to families in the area."
The new £19m Malvern Community Hospital will be built at Seaford Court, Malvern. It will have 24 beds and a minor injuries unit.
Work should begin in March 2009, with the hospital being ready for patients in September 2010.
