THE humble teddy bear has been elevated to the position of aid worker with a scheme intended to help sick children in third world countries.
Teddies for Tragedies Worcestershire believes that a simple woollen teddy to cuddle can help children recuperate quicker in some of the poorest parts of the world.
They are encouraging Malvern knitters to follow a simple pattern to create the colourful teddies which will be flown out to countries such as Uganda, Peru, Sudan, Zambia and Thailand.
Knitter Maureen Edwards, from Malvern, said: "When you see them all finished it's fantastic. They do look absolutely stunning.
"Children who have nothing and end up with their own teddy bear is such a wonderful thing."
Maureen is seeking donations of good quality double knitting wool and material to make the carry bags.
The knitting design is available from www.teddiesfortragedies.org.uk/ or by calling Mrs Edwards on 01684 564224.
