Life springs along for Dusty winner

SINGER Katy Setterfield, known to millions of television viewers as The One and Only winner Dusty Springfield, is busy preparing for her trip to Las Vegas.

Katy, who used to live in Malvern, came first in the BBC's tribute act talent show ealier this year and won a three month contract to sing on stage at Legends in Las Vegas.

Since being voted the winner in the top-rated TV show Katy's life has been a whirlwind round of press and TV interviews, photo shoots and discussions with record companies.

"Since the win life has been hectic but wonderful for Katy," explained her husband Andy, who is also a singer.

"She's looking forward so much to going over to America in May and performing as Dusty in Las Vegas."

He said Katy had been sent a list of songs to practise before her first night on stage on May 19.

She's also been sent clips of the real Dusty Springfield in action so that she can refine her own performances and be as much like her idol as possible.

"She's also arranged to have make-up and hairdressing lessons at the BBC in London," said Andy.

"During the making of The One and Only Katy had lots of professional help from BBC hairdressers and make-up artists to help transform her into a Dusty look-a-like," he explained.

"In Las Vegas she will need to be able to do her hair and make up herself so she needs to pick up a few tips."

Katy will be in Las Vegas from May until August and when she returns to the UK in the Autumn she is planning a solo UK tour.

"Hopefully that will include a date in the Malvern area," said Andy.

He said Katy hoped to finalise a record deal in the near future.

Katy is known to local audiences from performances in the rock'n'roll music show That'll Be The Day, which has played regularly at The Roses in Tewkesbury.

She chose to sing as Dusty Springfield for The One and Only as she is a big fan of the sixties singer and was thrilled that TV audiences loved Dusty as much as she did and voted her the winner.
