Cyclist injured in hit and run

Malvern Police are trying to trace a vehicle that did not stop after running over a cyclist who had been injured in a collision with another car seconds earlier.

The 65-year-old man was hit by a red Vauxhall Cavalier turning right out of Albert Park Road on to the Worcester Road as he cycled towards Malvern Link at around 7.30pm yesterday, Tuesday, January 15 Moments later, he was struck by a second, unknown vehicle as he lay in the Worcester-bound carriageway.

The cyclist was taken to the Accident and Emergency Department of Worcestershire Royal Hospital where he was treated for serious head injuries. His condition is described as serious but stable. The driver of the Cavalier was treated for shock.

A spokesman from the ambulance service said: "The man had been knocked off his bike by a car and we were told by people at the scene that he had been run over as well.

"He had serious head injuries and had marks across the whole of his body consistent with being run over by a car."

A section of the Worcester road was cordoned off as police dealt with the incident. They are now keen to trace the occupants of the second vehicle.

A police spokesman said: "We would particularly urge the driver of the unknown vehicle - and anyone else travelling in it - to come forward as soon as possible.

"Also, as this was a busy commuter period, we believe there will have been a number of people in the area at the time - either with vehicles or on foot - and would like to hear from anyone who saw anything of this incident."

Anyone with any information is urged to call the police on 08457 444 888, quoting 557S/150108. Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
