West Fest money to go back into the community

11:51am Tuesday 16th October 2007

THIS year's West Fest was the best yet and the profits it generated are to be put back into the community.

The 2007 music festival in West Malvern attracted more than 5,000 people and made profits of several thousand pounds. This is to be given back to local people in the form of community grants.

Individuals and groups are invited to apply for West Fest grants by visiting the West Fest website and money is available to support community action projects, cultural events, training and special needs.

"We want the money to help with things that will make an immediate impact and be of immediate benefit to people in the Malvern Hills area," said West Fest Committee member Philippa Day.

She said the music festival, which is organised and run by volunteers, had been 12 hours of continuous music from 20 live bands on two stages along with 40 stalls, food and beer tents and children's activities.

"It was a wonderful day. The atmosphere was superb," added Philippa.

"The aim was always to put money back into the local community if the event was successful."

Applications for grants must be made by November 16, 2007, and grants should be spent by July 2008. For information about how to apply for grants visit the West Fest website at www.west-fest.org.uk. or see the West Malvern community magazine The Hills Echo.
