Puppy dies in owner's arms after hit-and-run

A CALLOUS hit-and-run driver struck a 15-month-old puppy leaving it to die in its owner's arms.

Jamie Robertson was just feet away when the white transit van hit his much-loved pet, Sniper, before accelerating off at speed.

Jamie, from Poolbrook, Malvern, said: "He just ran out into the middle of the road without warning and was hit by this car. I instantly rang the vets, thinking that they could save him, but he was too badly injured.

"I held him until his heart stopped beating, which was extremely difficult for me."

The puppy, a Staffordshire bull-terrier owned from birth, ran off his lead and into the middle of Poolbrook Road where he was hit by the vehicle. Despite a vet arriving at the scene, Sniper had suffered serious injuries and died within minutes.

"The driver must not have cared. He just sped off when he realised what he had done," added Jamie.

Jamie, 27, described a friendly, energetic dog, known as a "big softy" to friends and family.

He said: "Sniper wouldn't hurt a fly. He was great with kids and really loyal. I've been distraught about it, to be honest.

"My friends and family have all been very supportive, which has helped me. I just want people to know how much he was loved and how many people will miss him."
