CHRIST CHURCH

I CAN’T tell you how much we are looking forward to our forthcoming, Sunday afternoon, autumn concert.

As the nights start to get darker we have a more “audience friendly” time of 3pm and you can all go home replete with wonderful music combined with wonderful tea and cakes, maybe that is what is meant by “having your cake and eating it!”

So, book your diary for a musical and culinary treat with a prestigious musical duo on September 23 when Malvern-born violinist Eleanor Percy, along with Russian pianist, Irina Lyakhovskaya, present an afternoon of superb music.

Their work has been broadcast on BBC television and radio and featured on Classic FM.

They have recorded works by Prokofiev and Brahms for the IMLab label and the complete Mozart Sonatas for the legendary Melodiya label.

Eleanor said: “Being a violinist from Malvern, I couldn’t resist the urge to play the Elgar Sonata which is very close to my heart.

"It combines a wonderful blend of majesty and intimacy which brings the Malvern Hills to mind every time I play it.”

They have also included music by local composer, Ian Venables. His Three Pieces for Violin and Piano were the first works he composed after he moved to Worcestershire in 1986 and were his first artistic response to this inspirational environment.

Also on the programme is Mozart’s exuberant C major sonata and the mighty ‘Kreutzer’ sonata by Beethoven. This extraordinary work is widely considered one Beethoven’s greatest masterpieces.

So, all you need to do is join us at our popular venue of Christ Church and where you will be richly rewarded with a truly delightful programme. Tickets £12/ Students half price, are available on the door and can also be reserved by e mailing angie@christchurch.org.uk and please see our web site www.christchurch-malvern.org.uk .

Before then you can join us for coffee, cake conversation and much more at our regular Saturday book fair 10am until noon and our service this week is 11am. Holy Communion with Canon Harold Goddard. As ever, we all look forward to seeing you
