ST Mary's Church in Sherrards Green Road celebrated its Patronal Festival with a special service followed by a meal at the Bank House Hotel, Bransford.
Members of Christ Church, Avenue Road, joined the congregation at St Mary's for the occasion.
The preacher was Rev James McCaskill, better known as Channel 4's Priest Idol in the 2005 programme of the same name.
ather James travelled all the way from Barnsley in Yorkshire for a Saturday evening question and answer session as well as the service and meal. He spoke about the challenge of developing congregations and providing a welcome to those unused to formal church services.
Also this week, St Mary's is starting The Lightning Club for 8-11 year olds. This will be on every Friday from 4.30pm to 6pm, beginning with tea and toast and a 10-minute moral teaching slot, followed by craft, sport and lots of fun. All children of this age group are most welcome. Further information from Rev Clare Griffiths, on 01684 564494.
