RESIDENTS of the Elgar Avenue area will have the chance on Saturday, August 25, to help shape the new community garden and have fun at the same time.
The garden is the dream of a group of local people, who have banded together as the Elgar Regeneration Group to create an asset for the community.
They want to turn an unused patch of ground, formerly allotments, into an area filled with flower beds, seating and willow structures.
The land off Elgar Avenue, owned by Malvern Town Council, was originally earmarked for low-cost housing, but in June the council agreed to hand it over on a three-year loan to allow the group to create the garden.
"We want to get as many people involved as we can, and that's why we're having the fun day" said Claire Seal, one of the organisers. "It'll be a fun day and a Planning For Real' day at the same time."
Children will be asked to voice their ideas about what the garden should contain, and thete will be a competition to name the garden, with a £25 gift voucher as first prize.
There will also be plenty of fun activities for all ages to take part in, such as rodeo rides, sumo suits, a tombola, face-painting and lots of other stalls and games. The event runs from noon until 4pm.
"After the fun day, we're hoping to have a big public meeting about the plans, and then if all goes well, we hope that work will start in the next four or five months," said Claire.
