A TEACHER at Dyson Perrins CE Academy has had his head shaved as part of a charity fundraising event.

Head of history Kieron Dobson braved the shave for Papyrus, a charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide, in memory of former pupil Alastair McDonald.

Mr Dobson said: “Alastair will never be forgotten by any of us and his legacy lives on with what we’re doing in terms of trying to raise awareness of the issue of young suicide.

“Alastair’s family have asked us to support Papyrus, a national charity focused upon the prevention of young suicide and we as a school are proud to do so.

“I am also supporting a second charity as I am donating the remainder of my pony tail to the Little Princess Trust, a charity who provide wigs made from real hair, free of charge, to children and young people that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.”

The day raised about £1,300 for the charity, with pupils wearing purple and staff donning Papyrus t-shirts.

Assistant head Claire Watson said: “There was a real sense of community that day.”
