WALKERS found alcohol bottles and cans scattered around the remains of a fire in woods close to the edge of Malvern.

Rob Harper, who lives in the town, was walking the Worcestershire Way with friends when the found the debris on Sunday afternoon in a woodland just north of Cowleigh Park Farm.

He said: "We came across evidence of heavy drinking, possible substance abuse and a large fire in the woods.

"We filled two large bags with cans and bottles which had contained beer and cider, and there were aerosol cans as well.

"But there is still broken glass scattered around, which could be a danger to dogs being walked in the woods.

"The ashes on the fire were still warm, so I would think that it was lit on Saturday evening," said Mr Harper, who has reported his find to Worcestershire County Council.

"Our main concern is the safety of the public, but it represents a real eyesore on one of our main walks and of course there must be parents unaware of what their kids are up to on a Saturday night."

A spokesman for the county council said: "We have passed on details of this complaint to the district council and the police to deal with the issue of antisocial behaviour. The public rights of way team will carry out an inspection of the path and area to ensure there are no safety issues."
